Mabel’s theatrical debut

Last summer Mabel taught herself to sing “Popular” from “Wicked” by watching YouTube videos. This year she took a one-week acting camp along with several other girls from our neighborhood, and she auditioned to do a solo for the showcase at the end of the week.  (All the performers learned 3 group numbers, as well.)  At first it wasn’t clear to us whether Mabel would get to perform her solo for the showcase, but it turned out there were enough slots for everyone who tried out to be on the program.  Then when we arrived for the showcase, we saw that she would perform the last solo before the final group number.  We’ve always thought that eventually we would have to let Mabel do community theater, and now we have a lot of other people telling us so.

We didn’t have a very good angle to see Mabel’s face, but our neighbor had a better camera angle and Dean was able to inter-splice the two videos.  (He stayed up almost all night downloading a video editing program and figuring out how to use it.)

Fantastic editing job by Dean, too. First time I watched I was impressed that (I thought) the drama camp hired a professional two-camera crew to shoot the performances.
