Wednesday morning update: late entries continue to trickle in: Thora’s Rainbow Valley of the Dolls and Patrick’s About a Boy Named Sue. You might want to save any others you come up with, because I think I’ll repeat this contest in a few weeks.
Tuesday night update: It’s over! I’ll announce the winner in the morning. I loved it that Lili managed to get in 7 more entries before midnight so that there were 200 (besides mine). And they were all great. And here’s one more bonus one that Lili and I just came up with on Facebook chat: Jonathan Strangelove and Dr. Norell.
Tuesday update: I will close this contest at midnight tonight Mountain Standard Time, then I’ll assign each entry a number and use a random number generator to select the winner.
Monday update: Wow, my female family members are fabulous at this game. But don’t let them scare you away. 🙂
I’ve decided it would be impossible to choose a winner based on merit, so the prize will be chosen by a drawing, with every title getting a separate entry. (So, Lili will win.)
Friday evening update when I should be making dinner: If you can’t tell, I’ve been putting updates in reverse chronological order. I’m also adding each new entry at the bottom of the post. And if you scroll way down there you’ll see that I just came up with a show-stopper.
Friday afternoon update: I forgot to say that I LOVE Thora and Avram’s Lost for 24 Hours.
Friday Morning update: All the submissions so far are surpassingly fabulous. Some of my favorites so far are Jen’s/Alex’s The Call of Where the Wild Things Are and Joe vs. the Mail from Seattle, Thora’s 2,000 Leagues Around the World/80 days Under the Sea and Anne of the Seven Gables, Mary’s Full House House, and my mom’s The Ugly American Graffiti. I like all of yours a lot, Mom–they’re very tightly crafted. 🙂
I haven’t decided whether to choose the winner by merit or by a drawing. It would certainly be easier to do a drawing since there are so many great submissions. Either way, keep the submissions coming!
Contest Rules: Make up a title for a TV show, book, movie, or whatever, that’s a composite or permutation of existing titles. I’ll also give a drawing entry to the first person to correctly guess all the titles that went into my examples below.
The prize will be a $15 gift card to Cafe Rio, if you’re near a Cafe Rio, and if you like Cafe Rio. Otherwise it will be a $15 gift card to someplace else. Or $15 wadded into an envelope and mailed to your home.

I’m going to be late to where I need to be at 9:30 and show up with wet hair, but I wanted to get my ideas down and not let this moment of creative genius slip away from me. Now it’s your turn! Enter your titles in the comments and I’ll choose a favorite some time next week.

Oh, crap. I will have to ruminate and come back. I love Cafe Rio!
I’m not very creative with my post titles. I went through them and these are probably my best and that doesn’t mean they’re very good. But that’s about as good as it gets with me.
My two best titles:
Adding a Little More “Fun” to Our DysFUNction
Would You Say I Have a Plethora of Peaches?
Ah, I see I should be a little more clear–I’m asking for made-up titles of books, TV shows, movies, or whatever, that are composite titles or permutated titles of existing titles. Like the reality TV shows The Bachelor and The Apprentice combined to make a new show about an apprentice bachelor (whatever that is).
I’ll still count you in for the prize drawing, though. I do like your plethora of peaches. 🙂
Literature:
Lord of the Ring Pops
Anne of the Seven Gables, or perhaps Anne of Avalon (set in medieval England).
2,000 Leagues Around the World, and its sequel, 80 days Under the Sea.
Pride and Prejudice and ZOMBIES!!! Oh, wait, this one has really been done, much to my eternal confusion.
Teen Fantasy:
The Guillotine Thief: Percy Blakeney and the French
TV:
Lost for 24 Hours – the show that you’ll never understand, in real time!
A Whole New Genre–Obscure Mormon Musical Fiction:
The Man Who Was Saturday’s Warrior
I’ll post more as I think of them – this is fun!
LOVE these!
IN honor of Groundhog’s Day, Feb. 2nd,
“Groundhogs Down Under”
uhh…
Okay I got one:
Full House House
Wait… that doesn’t work.
Saved by the Taco Bell?
I don’t get it.
I’ll be back.
Return of the Lord of the Two Towers
Return of the Star Wars Strikes Back
(I’m so funny)
Gilligan’s Island of the Blue Dolphins
…
(I’ve actually thought of the 30 rock from the sun one, too) 🙂
I think I’m going to have to be another “I’ll come back”er
This isn’t related, but I read the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society book this last week, and really liked it, so I’m glad that I’d read it, so I knew the title from your new title.
Mormonized Fiction
The Friberg Code
Charly and the Chocolate Factory
A Thousand and One Mormon Wives (A New history of Polygamy)
Cookbooks:
A Brief History of Thyme
Stephenie Meyer’s New Book:
Waxing Gibbous
Movies:
A Bollywood Swashbuckler:
The Princess Bride and Prejudice
Citizen Cain and Abel
in honor of Mabel: March of the Micro Penguins
The Princess Bride of Frankenstein
Sleeping Beauty and the Beast
Avram thinks they should come out with another Indiana Jones movie, and call it, “Indiana Jones and the Geriatric Ward.”
I was just reading about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies on Wikipedia, and apparently, the book came out of someone thinking of variations on famous titles, like War and Peace and Wuthering Heights. Then the author heard the title P&P and Z, and invented the book from there.
So…you could totally take some of these titles, and turn them into real books! And you’d be famous, and rich!
Wow, that’s amazing. I kinda think that kind of thing can only be done once before people get tired of it–too bad, because there’s some great material here to work with.
I guess the same publishing house also published this last year “Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.” I read the plot summary on Wikipedia, and it did look like trying to redo a shtick that was had become popular with P & P and Zombies. Plus they’re also coming out with a sequel to the P&P book. But…I think you’re right – people would get tired of them. Although hey, maybe you should contact this publishing house – they seem to like this sort of thing.
Oh, and I have to admit, Avram and I thought up most of mine together. I find it’s a lot easier thinking of these with a second person to bounce them off of. My favorite that he thought of was “Waxing Gibbous.”
I don’t want to go put Avram’s name next to yours by each of your submissions, but the clarification is noted. 🙂 You can share the prize if you win.
Oh, I’m going to have to come back to read the comments many times on this one.
Invasion of the Care Bear Cousin Snatchers
2001: A Myspace Odyssey

A Grief Observed: The Great Screwtape Divorce Letters
The Lion and the Witch come out of the Closet

*I hereby attribute random ones of these to my husband Alex, who is reading over my shoulder.
Great minds–while I was out this evening I thought of “Alexander and the Horrible, Terrible, No-good, Very Bad Wild Things.”
Love yours. I was going to put The Call of the Wild Things, but I was afraid it was too obscure. Should have trusted my gut.
Apocalypse Now Voyager

Ha ha, you’re pretty dang good at it too.
Zina,
How about “Fried Green Aliens?” My brain might come up with more, if it wasn’t so full of all the potential art projects,(I want to do)crammed in there at present! You are amazing, how you come up with these things!
Lara
I come up with these things instead of art projects. 🙂

Oh, haha. I just noticed it and came back to say that I just noticed it, and then I saw that you just wrote to me that I must not have noticed it.
There’s uh, a lot of content here now!

And yes, this must be the show-stopper you mentioned (it’s just that by the time I’d come back it wasn’t at the bottom anymore).
You might have to award yourself that Cafe Rio dinner 🙂
The Truman Showboat
(uh oh, my brain’s still working on it, even when I thought I could walk away…)
