“You were a great teacher this year, despite being pregnant.”
Ah ha ha ha ha. Other classics from kid cards past:
“In spite of what other people may say,
Dad’s the greatest, any day!”
-Betsy-mom, for Father’s Day
“It is the duty of the student,
without exception to be prudent.
If smarter than her teacher, tact
demands that she conceal the fact.”
-me, on a card for my third grade teacher
(I found this verse in your book of poems for children, and assumed that since it was teacher-related, it was perfect for a teacher card. I was smart enough to feminize the pronoun, but not smart enough to know I was giving my teacher a card asserting I was smarter than she was. Eek.)
I wish we hadn’t already sealed the card so I could quote the rest of what he said, which went something like this:
“I decided to take A.L.L. because of the recommendations of kids in my neighborhood [here he listed their names in parentheses] who said you were a great teacher, and I was not disappointed!”
Trust an 11-year-old boy to tell it like it is, without any sugar-coating (though the rest of his note I think is very sweet).
