My brother Robert was at Stake Conference this morning and the building caught fire — it apparently started in the attic and then spread, eventually pretty much consuming the building. Everyone got out safely. My brother took a bunch of photos, which you can find here. You can read stories about it here and here.
Update: Here’s video of the fire.
How scary! I’m glad no one was harmed.
My parents and older sister were in attendance when this building was dedicated by David O. MacKay. Mom said they set up chairs in the basement for the children to sit while they listened to the service so as not to disturb the adults. Pres. MacKay insisted the children be moved to the front row of the sanctuary. He spoke directly to them, and apparently none of them made so much as a peep during the service.
Shawna, thanks for sharing that sweet story. I love that a prophet “suffered the little children” like that.
Whoa! I’m glad your brother is safe.
that is CRAZY. glad he got outta there.
Yeah. Glad I booked it outta there!
It must have been a slow news day otherwise, as pictures and a short commentary about the fire was run on the 11 o’clock news here in the Washington,
D.C. area.
