We’re home

And I’m too tired to say any more than that.

Glad you are back home. I swear, vacations for Moms are not vacations. Now you need a vacation after the vacation!

I am thinking of y’all with love.

Laura: Thank you!! Your observation that now I need a vacation is very comforting to me — even if everybody knows it’s hard to travel with kids, knowing it is nothing like being in the thick of it. Coming home so exhausted and then being reminded of all the big stuff that needs doing here (home repairs and such,) on top of the regular overwhelming day-to-day childcare and housekeeping, is pretty mind-blowing stuff. I do need a vacation!

Mom: Thanks! Love you! I have an impulse to bring all the kids with me and come see you but I think I’d better get them naps first. We got them to bed around 10 PM and of course they were up by 6 thanks to their bodies being set to East Coast time.

If I’d had the energy to say so, I would have added that my level of exhaustion last night was nothing compared to when we got home from our Europe trip 3 years ago. That time I remember thinking “I will never travel again,” whereas this time is more like “I want to go live in Hawaii.” Maybe even with the kids. I guess I like vacation life better than real life.
