Indulgences

After two days of Mabel begging me for leftover “yellow rice” for lunch (Dean had seasoned the rice with turmeric the other night when I was wondering aloud what Cafe Rio does to make their rice so yummy,) and after two days of my saying no because rice is too messy for a lunch food, today I gave in, adding, “But try really hard to keep it on your plate and not get it on the table or the floor.”

I guess Rose missed that part. And I guess when you’re four, rice-eating seems best as a tactile experience. And I guess when you’re one and your sister demonstrates a fancy approach to eating rice, you have to try it out (even if you’d recently given up that method in favor of using a spoon.)

You can’t really see this from the pictures, but Rose also turned her bib around to her back for a cape, and the juice from her strawberries got all over the front of her shirt.

It only took me twenty minutes to clean up from lunch.

I am glad I am not the only one dealing with kid messes. The rice looks delicious BTW—I just love some good rice!
