Clothespin dolls
This is Mabel’s new favorite craft, which in a way makes both of our lives miserable, since she always wants to do them, and I’m not in the mood nearly as often as she is, and I won’t let her use my fabric or my sewing machine (for gathering the skirts) without supervision, and she thinks she can do just fine without supervision. But when I find the time to be magnanimous, she loves making these. The one with the bug reading on the skirt was made by Mabel for Rose, with Rose offering creative input. That fabric was picked out by Mabel and bought with her allowance at the fabric store yesterday.
I made a trip to JoAnn’s to buy more clothespins, and the only kind they had in stock were designed specifically for doll-making, so they have rounder heads and their feet are cut flat for standing. I bought some, but Mabel doesn’t think they’re as cute as the more traditional kind, and I have to admit that I agree. (I guess trips to Robert’s and Michael’s are in order.)

I don’t want to send you on a wild goose chase, but I think I saw some traditional style clothespins at the Dollar Store in my peripheral vision the other day. Seems like the thought of clothespin dolls popped into my head while we there, anyway.

Hi Zina,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I think these dolls are darling. They remind me of when I was a little girl and made dolls out of sticks (from the yard) and scraps of cloth my grandma had. I think I used tape to attach the skirt, cotton batting for hair and lots of kleenx for the layers of petticoats -which my grandma did not appreciate, but I was thoroughly entertained!
