Actually, yes, they’ve found a direct correlation between nerve fragility and number of progeny

I probably shouldn’t tell you this, (although if you have a blog that collects statistics then you already know it,) but I get to see which internet queries lead people to my blog — and it’s heaps of fun. I never would have guessed that slapping up a photo of the two new cabinets in my otherwise still-ugly laundry room would make “laundry room cabinets” (or some variation of that) my top query, and that post my most-read post. Nor could I have foreseen all the sad betta queries — the most poignant was “betta dropped him.” Predictably, I also get hits here and there for peanut allergies or Locks of Love or stitch-in-the-ditch, and I get about one hit a day from people seeking the right wording for “a lack of planning on your part doesn’t constitute an emergency on my part” — which I also had to Google before using the expression in the first place. So the cycle continues.

It looks like the quirky unique queries eventually drop off my statistics list, so I can’t share all the best ones (I’ll have to try to snag them before they drop off the list next time,) but I did enjoy this one from today:

are nerves delicate?

Oh wait, I just found the list of at least the recent one-time hits; here are some selections:

lack of planning emergency

sock “tights” “one shoe on” [The answer, although they won't have found it here, is "Diddle diddle dumpling, my son John/Went to bed with his stockings on/One shoe off and one shoe on/Diddle diddle dumpling, my son John." Or is it "Little Polly Flinders sat among the cinders/Warming her pretty little toes/Her mother came and caught her/And spanked her little daughter/For spoiling her nice new clothes." Or maybe, "Dancin' with my darlin' with the hole in her stocking, hole in her stocking, hole in her stocking, dancin' with my darlin' with the hole in her stocking, all by the light of the moon." Or something else -- I wonder if they eventually found what they were looking for.]

All very entertaining. And quite soothing on these worn and frazzled nerves.

  1. What a great post. Fascinating. It is always interesting for me to see the queries which lead to my blog. It is great to read about others also.
