Yet another science fair update

November 30, 2007

Yesterday evening was the science fair. Dean was one of the parents helping judge, and he took Mabel and Isaac (I stayed home so Rose and Henry could nap.) They had a good time, but Isaac was very disappointed because his project didn’t get to go on to the district competition. This [...]

Covering all the bases

November 30, 2007

Here was Rose’s prayer to find her favorite toy lambie (as well as I can remember it):
“Help that we can find Lambie. And Jesus can find Lambie, and I can find Lambie by myself, and Mommy can find Lambie.”
(In the end, I was the one who found Lambie — with help from Jesus.)

I’m not sure whether she thinks this is a good thing or a bad thing

Rose brings me a craft Isaac did in Cub Scouts and asks me to untie the string from it. Then she brings me a balloon, and points to the string.
“Mom, you can tie this on here?”
“Sure.”
“But I can’t go up to the sky.”
“No, you can’t go up to the sky.”
“Mm-mm.”

And then Mabel came inside and said,

“Mom, I’m starting a daycare, so if you ever need someone to watch Rose or Henry, I’m on the job!”
(Rose has cheered up and has followed her back outside.  I should go get them their lunch.)

Mabel and Rose were out on the trampoline,

and then I heard a lot of commotion. Rose came inside and tearily complained, “Mommy, Mabel wants to be the teacher, and I don’t, and I very scary!” Me: “Mabel wants to teach you, and you don’t want to?” Rose: “Yeah. And tricks, and I not, and I very [...]

If you are blessed

to have the last name “Kahm,” or “Orgue,” then you should name your daughter Dorothy and call her Dot* for short.**

*Dot would also make a good middle name, especially if her first name were “Google,” or “Yahoo.”
**It is THE BEST to have a ten-year-old son, because I finally have someone who, when presented with [...]

A gown for a giraffe — Mabel’s first machine sewing project

November 28, 2007

I’ll start with the pictures and then you can read the fine print below if you’re interested in my experience teaching Mabel to sew.

Mabel picked out this fabric a couple of months ago and I told her I’d help her make it into a dress for one of her stuffed animals. It took [...]

Meet the Puffys (A/K/A far be it from me to let my lack of photography skills get in the way of deluging you with pictures)

November 28, 2007

I was waiting to post these pics until I could get a picture of the fabulous pipe-cleaner-and-construction-paper trampoline Isaac had made, but I just found out it got thrown away by mistake when Dean and the kids cleaned up the family room the other day — so there’s no reason to delay any longer.

Bert [...]

Whew, this blogging stuff is hard work –

November 27, 2007

– and I’m already falling behind.
I give up.
Just kidding. I don’t want this to become a chore I’m always behind in and failing at (I have plenty of those in my life already — wait, in fact that’s all my life consists of) — I just want for it to always have scintillating fresh [...]

Lately when I try to put on Rose’s jammies,

November 27, 2007

she’ll say, “No, Mommy, there’s not two jammies, there’s just one jammie.”
